I think it’s so neat how much diversity is right here in our
own little blogosphere. Surprisingly, it’s something that I haven’t thought
much about. For the most part, we’re a community that really does genuinely
care about the success of others, which unifies us even though we’re all so
different. Right off the top of my head, I started listing names and genres
that show how different we all are:
Michael Offut and his
high-concept speculative fiction…
If it weren’t for Mark Koopmans, I don’t think I’d ever have read a memoir…
Michael Di Gesu and his
elegant noir writing and magical MG…
Sabrina Fish’s epic
fantasy…
The elusive Kevin Hiatt—who
knows what he writes…
Tiana Smith and her light,
but magical writing that takes me back to my childhood…
And of course there’s Alex
and his epic Space Operas…
And the list goes on.
It’s a step-by-step book about Dutch Oven Cooking. Fun, huh?
I’m SO proud of her. She’s absolutely brilliant and is one of those people who
know so much about everything. I
can’t wait to see what’s next for her. But for now, you can get her book at:
You can also follow her on
Facebook here.
Any genres I’ve missed? What do you write? Going to go check
out my amazing aunt Michele?
Red. Head. Out. :D
Awwwww. I think you're the sweetest person in the blogosphere :)
ReplyDeleteI wish I *had* a dutch oven. I always love cobblers made in a dutch oven!
AW that's awesome! Congrats, Morgan's aunt! You're family is all writerly :))
ReplyDeleteHey, Morg ... Hi, Michele,
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you and CONGRATS on your book, Michele. What a fun concept. I love to back, but never made anything in a dutch oven. Not sure if I even have one. LOL.
Talent sure does run in your family. AND any relation of the MORG, MUST have a WAY WITH WORDS... ALL THE BEST!
And,
Thanks for grouping me with such esteemed writers, Sweets.... I am honored, and I hope I can live up to all your lovely and heartfelt comments.
Congrats to your aunt and what a fine list of writers you've highlighted! And I agree, we're lucky to be a part of such a diverse and generous community of writers/bloggers. (:
ReplyDeleteCONGRATS to Auntie Michelle, I love cookbooks:)
ReplyDelete(Hands over ManCard for 48-hour penalty...:(
Diversity rocks in life and I'm so glad you wrote this post, Morg :) (*NOT because you mentioned me - and *Cheers!* but because I'd never really thought about it - but it makes perfect sense :)
What if one person - who's friends with another here in the Blogisfear - drops their chains of distrust or even hatred *because* of the solid friendship made through comments, posts and follows.
How sweet would that be - and I bet it *has* happened :)
OK, So one quick question... I'm part Dutch -
(What? You thought "Koopmans" was from County Cork, right:)
Anyhoo, so I have a crock pot... does that mean I'm Dutch, near the oven, cooking?
Love Dutch Oven cooking! Congrats to your aunt.
ReplyDeleteBig congratulations to your aunt! Talented family.
ReplyDeleteWe are quite the eclectic group of writers. Every genre covered. I'd never even read a memoir until I met Karen and Ann, and when Mark's book comes out, that will make three.
YAY, congrats to your aunt!! I'm definitely not a cook, but gosh do I ever love food!
ReplyDeleteSo writing runs in your family? And baking/cooking...?
ReplyDeleteCongrats to your aunt!

Morgan's Aunt here -- thanks everyone for your best wishes and kind comments! I like the "does that mean I'm Dutch, near the oven, cooking?" comment :)
ReplyDeleteFor Tiana -- if you decide you want to get into Dutch oven cooking, it doesn't take much. I usually recommend your first Dutch oven be a little eight-inch one. It's the size of a two quart casserole and you can buy a Texsport brand one for under twenty dollars at places like CAL Ranch and IFA. It's a good way to get started and then you can try out my fabulous peach cobbler recipe . . .
Pika - Thanks for your reply! I didn't know dutch ovens could be that cheap! I always thought they would be super expensive and hard to clean/maintain. We have an IFA near here, I'll have to try it out :)
DeleteI love diversity! Congrats to your Aunt. My daughter Faith is always hunting for new cookbooks. You can never have enough recipes!
ReplyDeleteYay for diversity! So many great writers out there, and so many great stories! Variety is the spice of life. :-p
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats to your aunt! I've never Dutch oven-cooked, but I definitely enjoy it when other people do!!!
Yay for diversity in writers! Just goes to show there's a genre for everyone!
ReplyDeleteI had the BEST pineapple upside down cake in a dutch oven before. Yum!
Congrats to your aunt. Is kissing a genre? I think I write kissing books. ;)
ReplyDeleteEvidently talent runs in the family! Congrats to your aunt. I've never used a Dutch oven, but I've heard it can be an easy alternative.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to your aunt! I'm not craving some good dutch over cooking--a family favorite around here!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Congrats to your auntie! Now that I know what a dutch oven is, (I used to think it was a strange contraption like an iron lung)I'll have to check out her book. :)
ReplyDeleteMichael's writing is magical and Alex's epic.
ReplyDeleteI've never cooked using a Dutch oven before. I'd be willing to try though. Congrats to your aunt.
I'll admit, I didn't exactly know what a dutch oven was either. I just thought it was some type of oven. Now I know.
ReplyDeleteYou're a Knight of the Cosmic Table! Yay!
ReplyDeleteI'm still trying to figure out my genre as well.. but I've at least been able to cut Paranormal Romance and Erotica off the list. ;)
ReplyDeleteI love how different everyone is though. It makes for a nice, and extremely crazy, writer family :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to your aunt! Clearly writing runs in the family!
Congrats Michele and Morgan it's great that you have an aunt who also writes. Diversity rocks and I mainly write YA Fantasy and Paranormal.
ReplyDeleteI love dutch oven cooking. It's so delicious. Thanks for mentioning me, Morgan. Your comment the other day regarding my pageviews made me giggle. My post today on the anime show that I had no idea what was going on with it got someone to upload a copy of it on YouTube with all English subtitles! I was astounded. I never would have guessed someone would do that for me just from reading my blog.
ReplyDeleteHey! 'Fish' here! *wink* Thanks for mentioning me, dear heart! You are one of my favorite members of this wonderfully diverse family of writers. My epic is coming along so nicely...thanks, in part, to you. I've also finished my outline for the 2nd one...just saying. *wink* I'll be ready to start writing on it as soon as I get these last revisions done on this draft of the current one. I hope your summer is going beautifully and congrats to your aunt!!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to your aunt! I'll have to check out her cookbook!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to your aunt. I looked at her site and was intrigued. I haven't experienced dutch oven cooking.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to your aunt! That's so neat. The writing community is so wonderful. I'm grateful for it each and every day.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool concept for a cookbook! I hadn't ever considered cooking outside with a Dutch oven before. Congratulations to your aunt on the release of her new book and for thinking of such a neat and practical idea! I'm sure many people are going to find it useful during the summer weather!
ReplyDeleteAwww, yay, gotta love the blogging community :) Great list, and awesome cook book idea!!!

That is definitely a different kinda topic! :) Nice post. Writer’s Mark
ReplyDeleteThanks so much again for all the good wishes and for those who visited my site. I visited a few of yours and am intrigued by your projects! I love a good book--especially YA fantasy. I am excited to check out some of your finished books and upcoming projects.
ReplyDeleteFor anyone that thinks they might want to try outdoor Dutch oven cooking, my book is definitely the simplest Dutch oven book out there. And yet at the same time the most "comprehensive" (as my publisher wrote on the back cover.) It's the simplest because of super-easy recipes and step-by-step instructions (I was gearing them for the twelve-year-olds at the summer camp I was involved with.) As they say though, you can't teach something simply unless you understand it thoroughly yourself, so the first half of my book gives the simple recipes and instructions and the second half relates the information I learned about Dutch oven camp cooking while trying to figure out the best way to teach it to others.
For those who may not know, outdoor Dutch ovens are different than indoor ones because they have legs and a rimmed lid to allow for charcoal under the pot and on the lid. Dutch ovens are probably called Dutch Ovens because those who were heading out on the Oregon and Utah trails bought their cast iron pots from the Pennsylvania Dutch (who were actually German). If you live east of the Mississippi, there is a good chance you have never heard of or seen these "cowboy pots."
Best wishes to all of you in your writing!
-Michele Pika Nielson
I spent years travelling with a dutch oven. When I finally settled, I gave it to my mum and dad, they still put it to good use.
ReplyDeleteSweet. I love dutch oven cooking! We do tons of it when we go camping. Best pie I ever made was in a dutch oven. :) We even did a birthday cake for my daughter one year. :) Fun.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Aunty Michele! I've always wanted to write a cookbook...I kid you not..maybe something with a sci-fi twist. My problem is I don't have many recipes...lol.
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely be checking this book out :)
Congratulations to your aunt! Years ago, I made a juvenile "cookbook," but it was in the box of old picture books and novelettes my mother put out for recycling before we left New York when I was 16.
ReplyDeleteThanks for including me among your list of writers!
Congratulations to your aunt! I agree...I love all this diversity in our writing world.
ReplyDeleteOoo! Gift idea!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! :D
Great post. Loved reading it and yes, love all the diversity!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to your aunt!

Okay, really dumb question. What is a dutch oven?
ReplyDeleteNot dumb at all. Like I said above, if you live east of the Mississippi, you probably have never heard of or seen one. Even if you live west of the Mississippi that can be the case. The term "Dutch oven" refers to lots of different types of cooking pots, usually fairly deep with a tight-fitting lid. In the west when someone says Dutch oven, they usually are referring to a "camp Dutch oven" or "cowboy oven." The outdoor type of Dutch oven is usually cast iron and always has legs (so you can put hot coals from a fire or charcoal underneath) and a rimmed lid (also to hold coals or charcoal.)The picture on the front of my book shows this type of Dutch oven and you can see the lid in the background. You can fry or sauté in an open Dutch oven with coals underneath, or bake in it when you put the lid on and have coals under and on top of the "oven." It is one really good way to bake something when the power goes out.
DeleteCongrats to your aunt! It looks fun-I now want one :D
ReplyDeleteI agree we are an unique group cheering each other on-how
wonderful is that!
Cheers to your aunt
and you for this sincere, sweet post!
The Dutch Oven book is definitely the yummiest one!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to your aunt!
Congrats to your aunt :-)
ReplyDeletecongratulations to ur aunt :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a good point:) Frankly, I don't know any two writers that write alike:)
ReplyDeleteWe are a diverse lot, and yet so supportive of each other. Gotta love it!
ReplyDeleteLove the diversity and all the support! What a great community. :) And I will have to check out that cookbook. I love dutch oven cooking. I've baked many a cakes on riverside camp outs in my day! :)
ReplyDeleteWe are a diverse bunch!
ReplyDeleteAllison (Geek Banter)
Congrats to your aunt!
ReplyDeleteI love the diversity in this community and that's the BEST part of it. We support, encourage, and the Ninja Captain leads his pack, oops, I mean his Ninja Army and we love each other like a family. *HUGS TO ALL MY WRITERLY FRIENDS*
Looking forward to your next post my friend!!
ReplyDeleteI'm not much of a cook, but I do love the old-fashioned look of this and it tempts me in ways most cookbooks don't. Congratulations to your aunt! Wishing her all the best with it =D
