IWSG!
It's great to be back! And great to start the New Year off with an Insecure Writer's Support Group post! Thank you, Alex, for being the mastermind behind such a fabulous group.
Now, I never do this, but this article, How Long Should You Keep Trying To Get Published by Jane Friedman is worthy of an IWSG post.
So check it out. I found the whole post fascinating.
And for me, I know that I'm on fire with the New Year energy. I'm ducking my head and working as hard as I can to produce the best work possible. We shouldn't be caught up in what someone else is doing, how successful they are, or where we "think" we should be. All that matters is that we shut out the voices that cause us harm, and get to work. That's where the magic is.
Red. Head. Out.
:D

So glad I get to be first commenter .... YAY!
ReplyDeleteThat is great advice Morg! I will definitely check out the article.
All the best with your work.... STAY ON FIRE and don't ever let the flame die!
Hey, Morg,
ReplyDeleteI read the article.... It was REALLY helpful and inspiring... THANKS.
That article definitely sounds like an IWSG thing. I'm a little afraid of what it'll tell me but not so afraid as to not check it out.
ReplyDeleteHappy writing and thanks for sharing!
Excellent post, and Happy New Year! :D
ReplyDeleteHappy new year! I'm heading over to read the article, thanks.
ReplyDeleteThat's right - what matters is what WE are doing!
ReplyDeleteBeing the slow writer I am I had to set my own pace toward the goal of publication a long time ago. Gaining patience has probably been my biggest learning curve in this.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
ReplyDeleteFocus is important.
Thanks for the link, it was really good :) Also, I know you have BIG THINGS in store this month, and I have my fingers crossed for you! When is the best time for me to send you my MS? (ie, when will you have most of your deadlines done, etc. I don't want to be causing you any stress!)
ReplyDeleteI'll have to check that out! Happy new year lady!
ReplyDeleteI read that article-- very good. I so, so agree: tuning out all the external voices so you can focus on where you need to be and what you need to be doing is what it's all about. Looking forward to following your blog and seeing where you are lead.
ReplyDelete"All that matters is that we shut out the voices that cause us harm, and get to work. That's where the magic is." -- I desperately needed to hear that, THANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteWow, that article was actually really helpful in a lot of ways. I especially liked the section on wasting time. I'll have to reread some stuff to make sure I'm not wasting my time. Thanks for posting.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Morgan!
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear you're in great shape!
And thanks for sharing the article!
I like how you end all of your posts with "Red Head Out." When you get your book published, that should be the last line in the book.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link. Have a Happy New Year.
Thanks for the link to that awesome article, which resonated with me.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year and happy writing.
I wholeheartedly agree....only compare yourself to....yourself. I think that's the true measure of success. :)
ReplyDeleteBest of luck!
Great post! I feel some super-charged energy here today. Keep writing. Keep happy while you're doing it.
ReplyDeleteThat article had a lot of very good points. I agree about not paying attention to others' success or goings-on, since no two people are the same.
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely an informative article, thanks for sharing the link!
ReplyDeleteI try to be inspired by other people's success, rather than jealous. Sometimes it is tricky, but it is much more useful to look at that way!
ReplyDeleteAllison (Geek Banter)
Happy New Year to you and thanks for this post.
ReplyDeleteYour so right.worry about your progress, and just be happy for others. Love to u my companion red head!
ReplyDeletelet's work magic then! :)
ReplyDeleteAgree! We've got to focus on our own goals and reaching them.
ReplyDeleteGreat post!
IWSG #137 until Alex culls the list again.
THANK YOU for that article! It was exactly what I need to know right now as I ponder whether to dive into my manuscript for yet another revision. (This needs to be my very best possible work, so yes, I'm going back in ...)
ReplyDeleteKeep that fire burning! I'm excited to see the final result. :)
My favorite advice is that we should each run our own race! Thanks for supplying that link. I loved it!
ReplyDeleteLove it! My fave advice is "everyone has their own pace for doing things" and that's whether it is writing or school or life in general. Happy New Year, Morgan!!
ReplyDelete"All that matters is that we shut out the voices that cause us harm, and get to work." I love that line! Those voices can be bothersome, but blog hops like this, help turn them off. Happy New Year, Morgan! Now, I'm off to read that article. Happy writing! :)
ReplyDeleteWise words, my friend. May this year be the best yet for you and your family. Each of us is equipped for our own journey. We have the right supplies, we just need to figure out where we packed it so we can get at it. :)
ReplyDeleteAmen Sister Shamy, amen!
ReplyDeleteYou keep that fire going in your head (I always wondered where the red hair came from - the truth is revealed :)
*MUCH* success in '13 :)
So, SO true. Tune out the negative madness around us and get to work, words we could all live by. This is your year Megan, you are awesome and so talented and I wish you sooo much success! :D
ReplyDeleteI have New Year energy too. You'll see how much with my 2013 goals list on Saturday.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great article! I really enjoyed and needed that. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking that article. Great info!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to check out this article. Thanks Morgan!
ReplyDeleteI read this article the other day and loved it so much!
ReplyDeleteIt was great to meet you in person the other day. :-)
Excellent! Can't wait to read that post! Happy 2013 Morg!
ReplyDeleteNever look behind or beside, just ahead. That's the key to never stopping.
ReplyDeleteHappy '13 lady! :-)
Off to check it out. :) Hope you have a fantastic 2013!
ReplyDeleteGreat attitude. Go for it with gusto!
ReplyDeleteInteresting article. She kind of nailed me to the wall with the self publishing section, but I'll politely disagree with her because even though there are too many self published books to count and the odds of success are against most of them, there are always a few who defy the odds, who prove the general statements wrong. I have to continue to believe I'll be one of those. Like you said, I'm shutting the voices down and staying focused on my goals! I love finding those small realms of magic!
ReplyDeleteHappy new year! I tweeted about Jane's post as soon as I read it. Definitely a must read!

Hey Ginger! (Hope I wasn't being too forward)
ReplyDeleteI read this the other day...perfect for an IWSG post. Thanks for passing it along to those who might have missed it. :o)
This is the first year that I felt the New Year energy. It's awesome. Great post. Happy New Year!
ReplyDelete'We shouldn't be caught up in what someone else is doing, how successful they are, or where we "think" we should be. All that matters is that we shut out the voices that cause us harm, and get to work. That's where the magic is.'
ReplyDeleteWell said!

ReplyDeleteThat's an intriguing article! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this intriguing article. Hope you had a great start to 2013!

Everyone's journey is their own. One of the worst things we can do to ourselves is compare us to others.
ReplyDeleteI love it when people I respect are successful, so I don't compare myself to them often. That helps a lot. :)
ReplyDeleteAck! Missed this last week! So glad I happened by Michael's latest blog post, cuz he linked us here. :)) Happy New Year and happy belated IWSG post day!
